An Apartment Gut-Renovation Project
LEE²DESIGN completed an interior renovation of this 3-story Victorian Era home in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The aim of the project was to create a space that would reflect the contemporary lifestyle of the client while maintaining the home’s historic charm. Included in the scope of the work was a complete remodeling of the building interior including the bathroom, kitchen, living room, dining room, staircase, and master bedroom.
The layout was reconfigured to maximize sunlight, space, flow, and character, while simultaneously reconciling a contemporary way of living with Victorian aesthetics. By removing certain walls in the previously dark corridor and separate rooms, LEE²DESIGN created a home that was seamlessly interconnected and flooded with sunlight, fulfilling the client’s desire for a space that would be well suited for entertaining a large number of guests. Furthermore, by including unique details, such as custom tilework on the bathroom floor, Carnegie Damask wallpaper in the entrance, and a London-style fireplace mantel in the newly-added library, LEE²DESIGN invoked the site's old world charm. And by arranging new iconic furniture alongside the client’s art collection, we created a bright, welcoming home that perfectly fit the client’s needs and vision.
