A Feasibility Study and Master Plan
Kathrin Lee of LEE²DESIGN conducted a large-scale feasibility study of the Gronensbergschule Elementary School in Melle, Germany while working with Architekturbüro Schnitker. The project included an investigation of the four buildings on campus, each one constructed between 1878 and the 1990s, with the oldest being a historical landmark. By studying archived plans, testing building material, and performing site excavations and deep ground boring, Kathrin and her team uncovered the various causes from unstable soil compounds to construction errors behind the wide range of problems that the buildings faced. The team then provided a comprehensive survey of the existing conditions as well as a masterplan that guided future reconstruction and repair.
